NELINET Consultants Help Member Libraries Assess Their Technical Services Workflows
Over the past few months, NELINET consultants, have been working with various libraries to help identify ways to improve effectiveness and increase efficiencies. "Every Technical Services assessment is different," says Smit. "We work with the library's specific questions to review their procedures and functions and then we suggest ways they can optimize workflows." Margaret found it great working with library technical services staff and sharing their commitment and enthusiasm for finding ways to make their lives easier. "As a consultant, I enjoy the cooperative process of translating ideas into a larger context and a more efficient reality."
Testimonials:
"The added value of an outsider's review showed immediately after the interviews. It is so much easier for library staff to open up to outsiders, and the consultants were able to identify major issues very quickly."
Janice Swiatek-Kelly (Associate Director, Arnold Bernhard Library, Quinnipiac University)
"NELINET's workflow review helped my library gain valuable insights into specific Technical Services areas, especially functions where staff time investment is not relative to the library's overall return on investment. As a result, the NELINET consultants' recommendations have successfully identified a broad range of workflow options that we anticipate will free up much-needed staff time that can be reassigned to more important priorities."
Jo-Ann Michalak (Director, Tisch Library, Tufts University)
